While beer and wine are a given at summer get-togethers, I always like to have plenty of non-alcoholic alternatives as well. Iced tea, lemonade, ice-cold water… and I mix up some Crystal Light because it’s just so easy! Their iced tea is a staple in my pantry – yum! – and ever since I reviewed their Pure line, I always have that on hand as well.
This summer, Crystal Light is doing something special. Mocktails, which are available in three flavors – Mojito, Margarita, and Appletini. I was sent a canister of both the Appletini and the Margarita to try.
Margarita was my fave by far. It actually tastes like a classic, refreshing margarita! Add a little squeeze of lime and maybe some salt on the rim, and I wouldn’t even miss the tequila and triple sec. The Appletini was good, too, just not what I’d reach for if Margarita was available. 😉 The kids definitely prefer the apple, though.
Crystal Light Mocktails come 5 to a canister. Each packet makes 2 quarts, which fills an average pitcher. Add too much ice and these drinks do taste a little watered-down, so I fixed this by making a second batch of Mocktails and filling up several ice cube trays and using this instead of regular ice. I can see the Appletini making some yummy sour apple popsicles, now that I think about it!
I tested Crystal Light Mocktails on my family on the 4th of July, and both flavors we sampled were a hit! They’re a fun and (fairly) healthy alternative to alcoholic drinks. I say fairly because while these drink mixes may only have 5 calories per 8oz serving – and ZERO carbs, sugar, fat, and sodium – they do contain aspartame, so you may not want to consume a TON of it. That’s one of the reasons I prefer Crystal Light Pure, which is sweetened with Truvia.
Remember, Crystal Light Mocktails are only available for a limited time, so look for them at your grocery store before they’re gone! Visit the Crystal Light Facebook page for suggestions on where to find Mocktails at a store near you. I know they’re available at HEB, Kroger, Safeway, and Wal-Mart, just to name a few.
