100 DAYS OF WEIGHT LOSS, DAY 6
Today my husband took off work and took me out to lunch, to one of our favorite places, a local Thai/Laotian restaurant. When the host asked me “Would you like a menu or will you be having the buffet?” I didn’t hesitate for a second and said “Buffet!” Because I love Thai food. Love. It.
Hours later, I still feel incredibly full… and a tiny bit guilty. I say a ‘tiny bit’ because while I may not have made the best choice by choosing the buffet instead of ordering one course off the menu, I feel like I chose the right dishes for the most part – just a little bit of rice, green curry tofu, one veggie spring roll, and filled half my plate with a green salad topped with a drizzle of peanut sauce. I got up a second time for tofu and steamed veggies, a little bit of drunken noodles, and one piece of fried banana, and more salad. And I drank water… two glasses (the food is spicy!)
Temptation is always around. I get that. Instead of depending on others to help me be successful with my diet, I must make the commitment that I’ll protect my program at all costs. While I can’t always predict or avoid the situations that cause me to weaken, today I should have been prepared when my will power was tested. Next time I’ll look at the menu ahead of time so when I walk into the restaurant I’ll know exactly what I’ll be ordering, and it won’t be all-you-can-eat.
Thanksgiving is coming up, which is wonderful – yet a little scary – to a person that tends to overeat. One trick I’ll be trying this year when someone offers me something I don’t want to eat is to postpone eating, making people think I’m not ready for food yet.
“Want a big slice of this pumpkin cream cheese brownie?”
“Not just yet… I’m going to wait a little while.”
And wait, and wait. Not rude at all, right? This gives me a gracious way to handle social situations and protect myself from eating things I shouldn’t.
