Maya’s last day of school was Friday, and we celebrated. Yes. We. Did.
Did this feel like the longest school year ever, or is it just me? Not that I have a lot to compare it too, as Maya’s barely a rising second-grader! I did think it was important to recognize and celebrate the wonderful year she had, though. She did so well in school, vastly improving her reading and math skills and is so much more mature than the little 6-year-old that got on the school bus last September. I do love having her at home (ahem… most of the time), so I look forward to the long days that we’ll get to spend together this summer. Especially since my youngest is starting Kindergarten in the Fall. Waah! I can feel the tears coming already… my tears.
So, yes, we celebrated with a casual pool party this past weekend! By casual, I mean it was just us. Me, the girls, and their dad spending some quality time together. I told Maya and Maura that we’d be having Tombstone pizza and Nestle Drumsticks, but they’d get to choose exactly what we’d be buying. How often do they get to make the decisions? Hardly ever, so they were thrilled! So off to Walmart we went…
First stop? Watermelon. Set up just inside the entrance to the grocery section, you can’t miss ’em. And, boy, do I have a weakness for this beautiful fruit.
After visiting the freezer aisle for the pizza and ice cream, I walked the girls to the toy section and surprised them by letting each one pick two pool toys. Summer fun indeed! With just a few things in our cart, we were in and out in minutes!
Tombstone pizza… well, you can’t go wrong with it. I find it’s consistently good with flavor options that everyone in the family will like. (Who else offers a half and half option? Love that!) I wanted to spend time with the kids, not as a slave to the kitchen, and it can’t get any easier than frozen pizza.
Nestle Drumstick cones have always been one of my favorite desserts BUT I had no idea there were so many varieties to choose from now! I tend to stick with the classic vanilla cone covered in chocolate and peanuts, and get the Lil’ Drums for the kids, but the triple chocolate cones? YUM. And some have sprinkles, too? So fun! Cookie Dipped is what the girls decided on, and I don’t blame them! A scoop of cookies & cream ice cream dipped in RICH chocolate with crunchy cookie pieces, all in a crispy, chocolate sugar cone. Mmmmm. Okay, I just let my mind wander...
We sat outside, splashing and laughing for the entire evening. The first of many fun summer nights to come!
