Last year, the Shred Sled was a hot, hot, hot new toy for both kids and adults alike! While I haven’t attempted to ride it outside my kitchen (I need a counter nearby to hold on to if need be!) I have to admit it is a lot of fun. I guess you could even call me a ‘Shred Head’.
Shred Sled still makes that one-of-a-kind caster board, but now they’ve also added a product for younger kids to their lineup – the Shox Scooter. Touted as the first-ever active shock absorber scooter that allows riders to perform “higher, faster, more awesome tricks,” the Shox Scooter is unlike traditional scooters. Its supreme shocks increase a rider’s speed and air-time, making stunts bigger and better. While Maya hasn’t exactly tried any of these tricks, she’s really enjoyed zooming around the neighborhood on her new Shox Scooter over the past few weeks.
Geared towards kids 5 and up, the Shox Scooter can hold up to 110 pounds, so if it’s well taken care of it can last my kids well into their middle-school years! Made of aluminum and steel, the scooter is lightweight yet sturdy. The spring shock deck absorbs impact when landing jumps and springs back slightly. It has a sandpaper-like surface that makes for a good grip and excellent foot control. The adjustable height bar makes it easy for children of various ages to share, and since it folds down (and only weighs about 7 pounds), it’s easy to toss into the backseat for a park playdate or visit to a friend’s house.
While Maya, my 6-year-old, does love her Shox Scooter, I feel like it may be a little advanced for her age. The whole “trick” concept is beyond her current skills, and the back wheel brake is a little awkward for her to use. She doesn’t go terribly fast, and doesn’t understand why she can’t just use her foot to stop! I’m sure she’ll grow into it and will be doing “ollies” and “180’s” and whatever those tricks are called soon enough, though. No rush! 😉
BUY IT!
The Shox Scooter retails for $59.99 and is available at retailers nationwide and www.shredsled.com. I see this being a big holiday gift this year! Remember to make sure your kids always wear protective safety gear when using the Shox Scooter.

My daughter loves this so much! I let my 4 year old son use it on the walk to her school then we let my daughter use it on the walk back to the car after school. It’s been a great addition to our family!
