Things are so different once you have kids. Even just a simple day trip takes so much planning, and I’m leaving the girls at home! I’m excited, though. As I mentioned briefly in a post about National Wear Red Day, I was invited to attend The Heart Truth’s Red Dress Collection Fashion Show this Wednesday in New York City. For several years now, this show has opened Fashion Week, putting a spotlight on heart health and inspiring women to take action.
I just saw the dress that Julianne Hough will be wearing on People.com, along with the sketch that it’s based on. A custom Swarovski red dress with a heart-themed crystal necklace. I love seeing how a designer’s vision gets translated into a gorgeous gown and can’t wait to see it in person! I’m sure that necklace is breathtaking up close.
Also walking the runway? Alison Sweeney, Suzanne Somers, Cat Deeley, Patti LaBelle, Gayle King, Giuliana Rancic, Melanie Griffith, Denise Richards, and more. And I’ll be on the red carpet, with camera in hand, when they arrive at Lincoln Center! Hopefully I’ll get to chat with some of them, too. I’d love to know why they decided to get involved with this cause. For more info and photos from past shows, please visit hearttruth.gov.
But what should I wear?? I went shopping at Macy’s over the weekend and brought home a top I’m not crazy about. A pink, frilly thing that Maya insisted looked “fantastic” but went against my better judgment. I think I was also a little overly excited that it came from the regular rack – not plus-size, like usual. [Squeee!] I’m going back tomorrow to exchange it. Maybe for something red. And I’m going by myself this time. My daughters tell me that everything looks great on me and I love it! LOL!

How exciting that you are in regular size now! I’ve got a very long way, but oh my I’m looking forward to that someday too – such a bigger selection! I agree, take back the top you are iffy about and get something you feel fabulous in, otherwise you will be self-conscious the entire trip. Red fore sure – it looks great on you (your avatar pic) and I’m not just saying that because it is my favorite color either.
Have a fabulous time on the trip – can’t wait to read your blog posts about it when you return!

Thanks, Robyn! I’m still considered plus-size (14-16, XL), but was happy to find lots of options in my size, and not in a plus-size section of the store. The difference from an XL and a 1X, which I used to wear, is huge. The same style of shirt, same brand, same color, fit completely differently. It was strange. Anyway, hope you’re doing well!

I forgot to tell you, but I ended up just wearing basic black and sneakers to the fashion show. Something I already owned. I realized that I would be behind the camera (and would probably not know a single person!) so I didn’t stress over it too much. 😉
