31 days of Oscar on TCM

Turner Classic Movies’ (TCM) “31 Days of Oscar,” is a month-long marathon that celebrates some of the greatest films of all-time, uncut and commercial free.

Each year the “31 Days of Oscar” schedule revolves around a theme. This time around, it’s “TCM University”. We could all touch-up on our knowledge of history and culture, right? What better way to do so than through film! Robert Osborne, TCM host, official biographer of the Academy Awards, and the Academy’s red carpet greeter (he’s a busy guy!), will serve as professor throughout the month, presenting more than 350 movies to educate viewers in 93 different courses.

Highlights include classes in mass media (1951’s Ace in the Hole and 1979’s The China Syndrome); biology (1940’s One Million B.C. and 1971’s Carnal Knowledge); nuclear physics (1950’s Seven Days to Noon and 1963’s Dr. Strangelove); the reach and influence of Nazi Germany (1942’s Casablanca and 1943’s Sahara); 20th century British authors (1959’s Room at the Top and 1991’s Enchanted April); military law (1937’s The Life of Emile Zola and 1954’s The Caine Mutiny); speech and language development (1938’s Pygmalion and 1964’s My Fair Lady); acting (1937’s Stage Door and 1993’s The Dresser); and farm planning and management (1941’s The Devil and Daniel Webster and 1955’s East of Eden). Each film that airs during “31 Days of Oscar” is either an Oscar winner or was a nominee.

This is the only time of year that you have the opportunity to watch classic films non-stop for an entire month, so put your Netflix account on hold until March 3rd, because you won’t want to miss some of these great movies.
