Like many families, when we first got Internet at home, we did so via AOL. Remember those CDs they’d mail out all the time? Yeah, we fell for it. I’ve had the same AOL email address for 12 years now, though I changed service provider years ago. I only check it every once in a while, but can’t bring myself to give it up. I fear an old friend will try to contact me one day, and I’d miss it if I were to delete that account, you know?
Day 9 – Join a forum and start participating
One of my favorite features of AOL was the message boards. I was a very active poster and made amazing friends there, some that I still talk to regularly. The format was changed, I lost interest, and moved on… but still enjoy participating in forums now and then. Some of my favorites, in no particular order:
- Mom Bloggers Club discussion forums
- DC Urban Moms
- Digital Photography School
- CNET forums
- BabyCenter Community
Though I haven’t actually checked this one out, I know that ProBlogger.Community could probably be a helpful resource as well, though it’s not free. And while this isn’t exactly a forum, for those that use Twitter often, the #savvyblogging feed is a must-read!
Today’s homework?
- Join a forum and participate. Preferably one that relates to your blog’s niche. Create a signature with a link to your blog. Something eye-catching that will prompt readers to click over. If you’re already a member of a variety of forums, take some time to visit them and join in the discussions! Read about this task at ProBlogger.
- Back up your blog. You should do this regularly. I keep archives of all my posts, but also backup my entire website once a month. The 15th seems like a good day to do so. You could back up your files more often than that, of course. If you have any questions on how to do so, let me know!
Do you have a favorite forum? Please leave a link to it in a comment.

Backing up your blog is a great idea. Mine is hosted by Blogger, but I don’t know if they have that feature.
Thanks for stopping by Healthy Moms! Have a terrific Tuesday!

Hi Cascia – Under “Settings” in your dashboard, you should see an option to export your blog. This will let you download your entire blog – posts and comments – on to your computer as an XML file.
Besides backing up your blog this way, you can also use this feature to merge two blogs into one, or to move your Blogger blog to WordPress, if you want to do that eventually.

Same question as above, I have no idea how to back up. Also, I am having huge problems with google analytics. I installed a hit counter on my site (you can see it on the page) and that tells me how many hits I get but the analytics program is saying I have none. Any ideas? Thanks for any help you can give!

Information about how to backup a Blogger blog is in my previous comment. About Google Analytics, did you add the code that they give you to your sidebar? I found that my stats were visible one day after I installed the code on my page. Let me know if that doesn’t work and I can look into it further!

I did it and then I had my husband redo it and it still isn’t working. I tried calling one of the affiliate numbers on the help site but they said since I didn’t set it up with them they couldn’t help. Very frustrating! I did sign up on sitemeter which is also free but if you have any pointers on google I would love them! Thanks!
