Diane Birch is a twenty-something newcomer to the music scene whose debut album, “Bible Belt,” was just released earlier this month.
Her music is hard to categorize. She likes to think of herself as an “old soul” and that’s exactly what she sounds like. A throwback to the 70’s, somehow Diane still manages to sound fresh and young. It’s rare that my husband likes the music I listen to, but in this case, he actually STOLE the CD from me! I barely had the chance to finish listening to it when he snatched it.
I didn’t find any of the songs on “Bible Belt” to be very catchy, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. This is the kind of soulful album that I can relax to. My favorite songs are the upbeat “Valentino”, “Fools,” where she sounds a lot like Carole King, and the first track, “Fire Escape.”
How often do you take the time to listen to the lyrics of a song these days? Diane Birch wrote all of the songs on this album. Her words are thought-provoking and powerful, and show a maturity that only life experience can provide. She also plays the piano beautifully. This is what being a talented musician is all about.
I had the pleasure of participating in a chat with Diane via Twitter, and she answered one of my questions! Actually it was my husband’s. He thinks she sounds a lot like Carly Simon and wanted to know if she was an influence. This was her answer:
If you’re on Twitter, you can follow @DianeBirch and she might just answer one of your questions, too! You can also find her on www.dianebirch.com, MySpace, and become a fan on Facebook.
Thank you to the One2One Network for the opportunity to review this album. Right now you can find Bible Belt on Amazon and iTunes for only $6.99!

That’s nice although I think it’s controversial when you can’t categorize her music style!
