Happy birthday, Capital Wheel!

The Capital Wheel

On Saturday, May 30th, The Capital Wheel is celebrating its first birthday! Over the past year, the Capital Wheel has been featured on SNL, ESPN and has changed the DC skyline as it stands 180 feet above the Potomac waterfront.

Capital Wheel sunset

I’ve ridden the Capital Wheel with my family, and it’s wonderful! Sitting in one of the 42 air-conditioned gondolas, you can relax and take in the DC skyline, even if you’re a little nervous about heights, like I tend to be. The ride is about 15 minutes long, which is just right. My kids really enjoy this attraction, and we’ve since gone back with family and friends!

Maya on the Capital Wheel

At night, 1.6 million LED lights change color in coordination with music.
It’s really beautiful!

Patriotic Capital Wheel

The Capital Wheel, a long with the carousel nearby, make for a fun family outing! I bet it would be a perfect date night activity as well. There are lots of fun places to eat and shop at the National Harbor!

Capital Wheel Birthday Party

To celebrate the Capital Wheel’s birthday, this Saturday there is a special day planned full of fun activities, including a DJ on the plaza from 10am –10pm, Buzz Bakery cupcakes for the first 500 riders, fun props in the Wheel’s gondolas for photo ops, and Golden Ticket giveaways all day!

WIN IT!

The Capital Wheel is giving away 10 packs of 3 “Golden Tickets” to my community. While these aren’t actually ride tickets (more like fun scratch off-style tickets), the cool thing is that every one is a winner! Ticket prizes include:
• Grand prize: One winner will receive free rides on The Capital Wheel for a year for four people
• Second place prize: Entered for a drawing for one of four prizes valued at at least $199. Prizes include:
—- 2015 Season Pass to Boating in DC for one person (two available)
—- 52 coupons for a free sandwich from Potbelly Shops (one year supply)
—- One free dozen donuts from Goodies Frozen Custard per week for 52 weeks (one year supply)
• 10% off Capital Wheel Ticket
• 20% off Boating in DC
• 20% off at the Peeps Store (LOVE this store!)
*No purchase necessary. Offers expire June 30, 2015. Must be 18 years of age to redeem. Tickets contain no cash value. Prizes must be redeemed at National Harbor stores only.

Three ways to enter: 1) Leave a comment on this post, 2) retweet my tweet below, or 3) share this post on Facebook, tagging @TheDomesticBuzz page. I’ll give away 3 sets of tickets via each method, and one set to the FIRST comment on this blog post. Ready, set, GO!

Happy birthday @CapitalWheel! Join the birthday celebration Saturday, 5/30 –> https://t.co/zpgkfhVg2v (RT to win!) pic.twitter.com/m6QO7JIARO

— Mariana (@ohMariana) May 29, 2015

Do all three for a better chance at winning! I’ll pick the winners early next week so the tickets can be mailed out to you ASAP. How awesome would it be to win free rides for the entire year? My kids would go NUTS!

For more information on the Capital Wheel and Saturday’s birthday celebration please visit www.thecapitalwheel.com. Follow  @CapitalWheel on Instagram and Twitter for fun updates!

I’m receiving free ride tickets for sharing this information with you, but all opinions are my own.
Have you ever ridden a giant observation wheel like this?
Happy birthday, Capital Wheel!

Neither of us have ever been, but we just live in northern PA so it’s not terribly far from us. Anyhow, I didn’t even know about the Capital Wheel! We’ll definitely have to check that out when we get there 🙂
