Happy I Love You Day

As I was washing the dishes after lunch today, I noticed my 4-year old quietly cutting shapes out of notebook paper, coloring the pieces and putting them in a small box she grabbed out of the recycling. I assumed she was making Valentine’s cards, as we’d been talking about doing that one of these days.

Happy I Love You Day

She took the box to the living room, and came back into the kitchen to ask me if we could take a walk later to deliver them to her friends.

“Valentine’s Day isn’t until the end of the week!” I said.

To which she responded:
“Valentine’s Day is only one day, but Happy I Love You Day is EVERYDAY, mommy!”

I was left speechless! I’m sure she got that from a cartoon she watched on TV, although I haven’t seen any Valentine-themed cartoons yet so I’m not completely sure. I was definitely touched by what she said though, and really appreciate that she understands that she can say “I love you” anytime she wants, just because.
