This is part of a compensated campaign in collaboration with Vi and Va Dolls and Latina Bloggers Connect.
My daughters love playing with dolls. They always have. While there may be a 3-year age difference between them (which is a LOT at this age), playing with dolls is one thing they have in common and enjoying doing together. The newest additions to their collection are four beautiful Vi and Va dolls, a fashion doll line inspired by Latino cultures that just launched recently and is available exclusively at Target.
Vi y Va (pronounced like Viva! Get it?!) are two teenage sisters: Viviana (Vi) and Valentina (Va). For them, every day is an adventure and a reason to celebrate the bonds of family and friendship. Along with their cousins (and best friends!), Felicia and Roxxi, Vi and Va help young girls like mine honor and embrace their heritage.
The girls each saw something in these dolls that they can relate to. They’ve even been calling themselves Ma and Mau. Doesn’t have the same ring as ‘Vi and Va’, but cute anyway!
Maya is the big sister and plays an instrument, like Vi. Maya plays the viola, while her doll plays the guitar. They’re both spontaneous, easygoing, and share a love for music. She even comes with sheet music! Like Viviana, Maya dreams of being a fashion designer when she grows up.
Maura is the little sister and loves cooking and baking. Like Va. Maura and I often cook together, just as Valentina does with her mother and grandmothers. She’s already perfected some family recipes, like empanadas.
My daughters have a cousin who they are very close to. Similarly, Vi and Va’s cousins, Felicia and Roxxi, are their mejor amigas… best friends. Felicia is an artist and Roxxi, like my niece, is a dancer.
How cute are those outfits? We’ve had fun mixing and matching shoes, clothes, and accessories, just like real sisters and best friends do!
In addition to these four dolls, the product line includes several more dolls and activity sets to help little girls play out each character’s storyline and enjoy her special talents. There’s also has a Sweet 16/quinceañera collection, where the family celebrates Vi turning 16 and Va turning 15 with a combined family party celebration. Girls can join in the fun by dressing up and role playing with styling accessories. I like that the stories and writing on all the packaging is in both English and Spanish so every child can understand and maybe learn some new words!
I’m happy when I can put a smile on my daughters’ faces, and I did just that when I presented them with these dolls. Not only do they look more like them than the typical fashion doll, and have similar backgrounds and interests, but I also love the focus on both family and culture… these four girls aren’t just friends, they’re family! The full assortment of “Vi and Va” fashion dolls is available at Target stores and on Target.com. How cute are these dolls? I don’t have daughters, but I know from being a female that this is totally something I would’ve wanted to play with, with my twin sister, when we were young.

I love that these dolls have some background to go with them. It does encourage kids to be able to relate to them and their heritage a little bit. One way we embrace our ancestry is in the kitchen. Cooking traditional Irish or French meals keeps my kids connected to their roots.
