Because Disney Family.com recognizes the importance of eating and living healthy, they wanted to provide tips and advice on slashing sugar, cooking light, healthy recipes and more. That’s why the site has partnered with Jamie Oliver – America’s new healthy food champion – and has recently added brand new site content focused on living better and living well. Jamie Oliver’s show, ‘Food Revolution,’ addresses how families can rediscover ways to cook simple, delicious and affordable meals, and Family.com now features recipes from Jamie as well as his personal tips for healthy living. In addition, if you missed it on TV, you can also stream episodes of Food Revolution from the site.
To spread the word about Family.com’s partnership with Jamie Oliver, and the corresponding site content, I’m offering a gift pack to one winner which includes Jamie Oliver’s book, Jamie’s Food Revolution, Family.com branded oven mitts and apron, and a cutting board and bowl set. It’s a prize valued at approximately $85!
To enter, please leave a comment telling me how you encourage your family to make healthy decisions when it comes to food, or let me know about a recent, positive lifestyle change you’ve made. Year round, you can visit Disney Family.com for parenting advice, travel ideas, recipes and more.

Love Jaimie Oliver and the work he’s doing to get America’s kids back ona healthy track! Now that my kids are grown, I encourage good habits w/my Grandson by insisting on REAL juices (Not those juice-like things in the squeeze packs and some juice boxes!) and lots of veggies. Luckily both his Mom & Dad love good fresh food and his Mom ate well while prenant/Nursing. Small changes can make a BIG difference – cut out all the excess sugar/high fructose corn syrup etc and kids become ALOT less agitated and “hyper”. It may take a week or so, but the change will be amazing!

My husband and I show hoe healthy food can still taste good- using other items in normal foods- like spinach in fruit smooties
we are trying to eat less meat and i try to use veggies and fruit for snacks.
We eat dinner as a family and limit sugar.
One way I encourage my family is that I do as I say. I say we have to eat healthy and I do it by example. What good would it do if I said it but didn’t do what I said.
I put out veggies as soon as we get home so my kids are eating peas or green beans instead of carbs while I get dinner on the table.
We’ve made the Saturday morning farmer’s market an “everybody must go every Saturday” institution. We each find something that appeals to us.
I’ve been trying to buy healthier food items & more fresh fruits & veggies. I also always pick up any fruit my kids want to test out. Recently my daughters tried grapefruit (didn’t like), starfruit (loved) & prickly pears (so awful!). I figure if the healthier food is in the house, it will make choices easier.

I’ve recently started wearing a pedometer and make it my goal to get in the recommended 10,000 steps a day…about 5 miles of walking! Luckily, my Dad has also taken up the call to lead a healthier lifestyle so we go walking together and it’s nice to have someone there sweating it out with me and also nice to get to spend that time with just he and I.
I make healthy options for my family. I try to make a wide variety of healthy foods for each meal. Everyone has to taste everything but can choose what they really want to eat.
I stopped drinking soda because my son is now getting old enough (16 months) to notice and I don’t want him to get into sugary drinks.

What a great giveaway! I would love to win this…we are changing things at our house – always eating together as a family, healthier cooking, buying mosting organic, etc.
I really like making my own bread, knowing that I can pronounce the ingredients that are in it! Just recently, I have discovered canning my own meats and fruits. I can can meat with no salt and bottle fruit with little or no sugar.
I’m making more supper salads.
The girls absolutely love that I make so many things homemade now. They’re constantly asking me “well, do you think you could make that homemade? Yours would be better,” and often times it’s things they know are unhealthy otherwise. They’re giddy when I admit that I’ve put pureed pumpkin into a cake or brownies, etc, and they couldn’t even tell….but by skipping the oil, it’s so much better for us, even though it’s still a treat to be eaten in moderation.

I’m trying to help my mom when it comes to healthier food choices with my preteen brother. I help supply healthier versions of his favorites and we give healthier choices along with what he requests. For example, I made whole wheat banana cookies that he loved. Or when he asks for toast on plain white bread, we’ll give him a slice of whole wheat and the white bread so that he will at least try the whole wheat (he liked it last time, too!).
Thanks for offering the giveaway!
