I’ve said before how lucky we are to have a wonderful playset in our backyard and many great parks nearby. Many kids don’t have that privilege, so when I discovered that there’s a a non-profit organization dedicated to finding and creating playspaces within walking distance for every child, I just had to tell you about it!
KaBOOM! is on a nationwide mission to empower communities to build their own playspaces. This is especially important for those children that live in neighborhoods without playgrounds or playspaces, or are unable to use existing ones because of rundown conditions or dangerous neighborhoods.
Using the KaBOOM! Playspace Finder you can type in the region in which you want to search or the name of a particular playspace into a search box, and see it on a map. This is a great feature if you plan on going on a roadtrip this summer, or are just visiting family out of town and want to find a cool place for your kids to play.
It’s so easy to create a playspace listing easy on KaBOOM! You either fill-in a short form on their website or send in a pic via Twitter from your cellphone. And not only playgrounds count as a playspace! Skate parks, fields, ice rinks, lakes, dog parks, community centers, and basketball courts also work – any public place where kids can engage in unstructured play for free or a nominal fee. A playspace listing on KaBOOM! consists of an address or cross street and a description, one photo and one rating.
Do your kids have a favorite playspace? Take a moment to list it on KaBOOM! and you’ll be helping those in your community. For more details on how to post a playspace, please visit KaBOOM!’s Playspace Finder.
