No Internet. Karma? Perhaps.

No Internet for 4 days – the longest I’ve been without it since 1999, I think. It’s amazing how disconnected I immediately felt once the realization set in that it wouldn’t be fixed right away. It crashed shortly after I got off the phone with Verizon, attempting to fix a billing issue. Pure coincidence? I think not. I guess that’s what I get for complaining and telling all of the Twitterworld how much I loathe the telecommunications conglomerate.

So what did I do during those four cyber-less days?

  • Read a lot. Stay tuned for a few book reviews coming up.
  • Caught up on sleep. I averaged an extra 2 hours of slumber the past 4 nights!
  • Watched the Olympics. Yes, even shot-put and a match or two of badminton.
  • Cooked. Don’t get me wrong – I cook everyday, obviously. I just usually do so in a rush, not really thinking about (or enjoying) it. Saturday, thanks to Chef Geoff, I made risotto for the first time. Sea scallops with asparagus and mushroom risotto, to be precise. More details to come in a future post.
  • Baked. I usually don’t do so in the summer because the kitchen gets much too hot. But yesterday I was bored and had a bowl full of apples to play with, so I finally pulled out the tarte tatin recipe that a neighbor gave me way back in March. All I can say is OMG. It was so good. WAS is the keyword there, because it’s all gone. I’ll also share that recipe in an upcoming post.
  • Organized my bookmarks. All one zillion of ’em. When it took me 19 seconds to scroll down to my last bookmark I realized I had a little purging to do. I have the habit of hitting apple-D (that’s ctrl-D for you PC users) whenever I come upon a website that interests me. By the time I get back to it, sometimes I’ve forgotten what I liked about it in the first place. I deleted a good amount of bookmarks that are now obsolete, and sorted the rest into categories. As of now, I can see all my bookmarks without the need to scroll. Ha! How long will that last!?
  • Finished playing the trial-version of Scrabble that I downloaded last year and still had 47 minutes remaining of. I was so into it when the “Buy Now!” screen came up, that I was SO ready to buy it… except for the fact that I would need an Internet connection to be able to download it. Doh.

So now I’m off to read 129 emails, catch up on tweets, Facebook, Perez Hilton, etc.
You know – all the important stuff.

Are you dependent on the Internet? Or is it just me?

[…] other items in my inbox, it got filed away in a random folder and I forgot about it, until that weekend that I had no Internet. That’s why I’m just getting around to sharing the recipe. […]
