Last Sunday night, after nine weeks of grueling competition, stay-at-home mom and home cook Melissa d’Arabian was crowned The Next Food Network Star during the hit reality show’s season five finale.
What did she win? Her own Food Network show! Ten Dollar Dinners with Melissa d’Arabian will premiere tomorrow, Sunday, August 9th, at 12:30pm ET/PT.
On her new series, Melissa shows viewers how to incorporate creative and tasty meals into their budgets by sharing her tried-and-true recipes. With countless tips to save time and money in the kitchen, she keeps her $10 promise in every episode: four people, ten bucks, infinite possibilities. From approachable Parisian and Moroccan menus to sophisticated upgrades for everyday chicken and pork, Melissa’s delicious budget-friendly meals demonstrate home cooking at its finest.
I had the opportunity to talk to Melissa yesterday, along with a few other bloggers, and I can tell you she is just as charming over the phone as she is on TV! I’ll look through my notes and share the highlights of our conversation with you tomorrow, as well as my thoughts on her new show.
Casting for season six of The Next Food Network Star, set to air in 2010, is currently underway. Melissa’s win will undoubtedly inspire other stay-at-home moms to audition. Would you ever try out for something like this?

How fantastic that a stay at home mom won this. Better yet I love her idea of dinner under 10 bucks. I can’t wait to watch this!

I was rooting for her the whole time. So glad she got it, and she was so humble. I will watch her more than I would have any of the other contestants.
