On Friday night, I was sitting on my comfy couch in the living room, on my computer, of course, tweaking my new blog theme, when all of a sudden I heard crazy wind and saw that the huge (huge!) oak tree in our front yard was actually swaying, branches flying. It scared the crap out of me, but there I was, standing at the window just staring in disbelief.
Then rain started coming down hard, which snapped me back into reality. I ran upstairs to wake the girls who were already in bed, and brought them to the family room at the back of the house, to wait out the storm, which ended up lasting all of 10 minutes, if that. By the time the sofa bed was set up, the storm had passed, and our power was out. And it’s been that way ever since.
Did I mention Friday was 104°? Record-breaking heat all weekend long. Thank goodness my sister-in-law got her power back yesterday. We’ve been here during the day, but go back home to sleep at night. Such a pain. So much of the food in our fridge went to waste. I consider ourselves lucky, though. I’m grateful. There have been lives lost and homes damaged, but all we’ve lost is some milk and frozen tilapia. This is just one of many downed trees in our area.
Likely the cause of our power outage…
Constantly refreshing my power company’s Twitter and Facebook pages for updates, and reading news of Mexico’s new president got me thinking of this song – “Gimme tha Power” – by one of my favorite Mexican bands, Molotov. Listen to it. It’s catchy. And you’ll learn a few curse words in Spanish, haha!
