Today I turned 30. And wasn’t too happy about it. This is what I wrote last night…
rant/
I’m so over birthdays. I’d be perfectly happy sitting at home all day, helping the girls bake a cake, and just taking some time to relax and reflect. I made some jalapeno poppers, and picked up hummus and a chocolate ganache torte at Trader Joe’s, so really, I’m good.
But no. Instead the hubs insists we go out for dinner. Alone. Which means I have to find a sitter through the babysitting co-op. A bit of a challenge with less than 24 hours notice.
And then the father-in-law finds out about this dinner (dear husband casually mentioned it) and is offended because we’re not including the rest of the family.
Then the sister-in-law finds out we’re in need of a sitter, and volunteers, even though I know she’s super stressed out about the mother-in-law’s health issues (just found out she’ll likely need a liver transplant) and renovations going on at home. This means that she’d have to watch the girls at our house.
So now I feel pressured to spend all day cleaning the house, because sister-in-law is going to spend several hours here hanging out with the girls, and the house is a !@#$%^& mess. She’s coming straight from work, so I also need to figure out dinner. I don’t really think she likes my cooking, so do I just order pizza? And throughout our meal, I know I’ll feel guilty for allowing her to watch the girls with everything she has going on! Gah!
Wait… who’s birthday is it again?

I decided to put my foot down and take back my day, and it turned out lovely. Just lovely.
It’s funny how things can change in just 12 short hours.

Happy Birthday!!!! I can totally relate! That was probably the sadest day of my life – I oficially felt “old” LOL!!! I’ll be 32 this year…I think LOL I have to go back and fourth – ok is it 32 or 33 this year! HAHA but then I just get even more depressed so I don’t even think about it anymore
I can tell you Happy Birthday….but know that it’s hard to celebrate turning 30
Hope you had a good one and so happy to hear you made the best of it!!

Happy Birthday! Good for you for putting that foot down. That reminds me of the time we were going out with friends to celebrate at a restaurant, and DH decided to invite them over to our house instead! I had about a half day notice… cleaning the house and getting the meal ready took all the fun out of the celebration for me. Hello, we were going to my FAVE restaurant! Not to slave-in-the-kitchen while taking a break from the mop shack. Rant/rant!

Happy Birthday! 30’s are the most wonderful years to think and reflect, and do things that you always wanted to do. I was 30 when started nursing school, had my last child at 37. I am not old at all, and over 50! SMILE

Happy belated birthday! I used to hate birthdays and hate getting older. I’ll be 40 this year even though I still look like I’m in my 20’s (thanks to good Japanese genes)! Parents at my daughters’ school sometimes confuse me with one of the students. Anyway, I realized a couple of years ago that I wouldn’t want to be younger. I like getting older because it means I don’t have to play the stupid dating game anymore, I don’t have to go through the mind games that young people submit each other to, I know how to pick my battles better, I’m more confident, I don’t act silly and immature, and I think I’m better in bed. Say thank ya!
