We play with Play-Doh almost everyday. Sometimes it gets hard to think of what to make with it, though. I had never bought any kind of Play-Doh gadget for my daughter to use, so when I was offered the Play-Doh Magic Swirl Ice Cream Shoppe, I was just as excited as she was!
It only took about a minute to assemble the playset. All you have to do is attach the swirl unit to the base, followed by the “sprinkle” maker and the “topping” maker. To make ice cream, you fill the recess in the swirl unit with Play-Doh, select which ice cream shape you want to create, place a dish or cone under the swirl unit, and press the handle down. You then decorate your dessert with sprinkles, whipped cream, or use the molds to make even more toppings. The possibilities are endless. As my daughter said the first time she made a Play-Doh ice cream creation – “It looks good enough to eat!”
The Play-Doh Magic Swirl Ice Cream Shoppe won Parents Magazine 2008 Best Toys of the Year Award, and I can see why. It’s kept my easily-distracted 4-year old busy for hours! The best thing is that, other than the sound the swirl unit makes, this playset is quiet. Maya doesn’t nap anymore so it’s the ideal toy to play with during her (and Mommy’s) afternoon quiet-time.
The playset comes with four 3-ounce cans of Play-Doh, over 40 built-in molds, two ice cream cones, two spoons, an ice cream scoop, sundae dish, parfait glass and a cake. It’s all easy to clean, quite durable, and retails for $14.99. Recommended for ages 3 and up, though Maya is 4 and needed help the first few times. Now she’s so good at making swirl cones by herself, she could get a job at a real ice cream shoppe!
