7 years ago this week, I was 9 months pregnant with my first child. It’s hard to believe it’s been that long! A couple of my co-workers (and best friends) threw a wonderful baby shower for me the second week of August. One I’ll never forget. We ate good food, enjoyed lovely company, and played a bunch of hilarious games. Of course, I received some really great gifts. And lots and lots of diapers.
I’ve only been to a couple of baby showers since (one being my second), but I’ll always remember that one fondly. I had no idea what laid in store for me, so there was definitely an innocence and excitement about it all!
My, how the time flies. Maya, my oldest, is a first-grader and Maura, the baby, is now a big girl. She’s still in her crib, as we turned it into a toddler bed, but other than that, I’ve just recently given away or sold the last of my baby gear. It’s all so bittersweet.
That said, I still love checking out all the new baby products out on the market! Sometimes some show up on my doorstep unexpectedly. The perks of being a mom blogger. These are a few of my faves:
HALO SleepSack wearable blanketThe HALO SleepSack wearable blanket replaces loose blankets in the crib that can cover your baby’s face and interfere with breathing, reducing the risk of SIDS. In addition to sleeping safer, the HALO SleepSack helps babies sleep better, too. It’s a warm cuddly blanket they can’t kick off, ensuring baby sleeps soundly throughout the night. The generous sack design allows room for kicking, but can’t be kicked off so baby stays warm. The blanket unzips from the bottom for those inevitable nighttime diaper changes. Available in a white range of colors and fabrics. Retail price: $20-30 (but can usually be found for less on Amazon!)
Buggyguard retractable stroller lockGoing to a theme park, zoo, restaurant, or traveling somewhere with baby? You’ll likely be leaving your stroller unattended at one time or another. If you love it, lock it! The buggyguard retractable stroller lock will lock your stroller and grant you peace of mind so you can focus on what matters most, your kids! These locks attach in easily accessible locations on your stroller and are ready at a moments notice to lock your belongings and the stroller to itself, an object nearby (i.e. park bench, fence, tree or light pole), or both. In addition to the hippo pictured to the right, monkey, panda, and piggy designs are also available. Retail price: $24.95
Buggyguard B-HookPerfect for strollers, shopping carts, bicycles, backpacks, and much more, the buggyguard B-Hook is great for hanging your purse, diaper bag, camera, or shopping bags. Constructed of lightweight, heavy-duty aluminum, it discourages theft with its 3-digit combination lock. The hinge opens outward which makes it easy to slip items on and off with only one hand. Now you can hook and secure your belongings when going to theme parks, malls, grocery stores, gyms, aquariums or simply traveling. Retail price: $9.99
Wee Gallery Art CardsWee Gallery art cards are created from bold, whimsical, hand-painted originals that cater to a baby’s visual strengths. Printed on recycled board, the black and white images and their repeating patterns captivate little ones. You can place them along the side of a crib and make a wee art gallery for baby. Or turn the cards into a cool mobile. Once babies are old enough to reach for the mobile, the cards can be framed and hung on the wall, or used as flash cards to help kids learn about animals. Read my review of these cards here. Retail price: $12.95 |

At my daughter’s baby shower they had a raffle-type drawing for anyone who brought a package of diapers – a beautiful gift basket went to the winner. At the same time, my daughter was able to try a great variety of diapers which enabled her to make an informed decision of her favorite (ended up being Target’s house brand – who knew?).

I just threw my sister-in-law a princess baby shower. We made her a “throne” to sit on, and she had to wear a tiara! Everything was decorated pink, with jewels and glitter everywhere. We had a crown decorating contest for the guests and I made star cookie pops decorated to look like princess wands. It was so much fun!

One memory from my Baby shower was looking at all the tiny, adorable baby clothes, and it finally really hitting me that in just a few months I would have a sweet baby to wear them all! I’ve kept almost all of both kids newborn clothes, I love pulling them out remembering when they were that small and seeing how much they’ve grown since then!

One of my baby showers took place outside…in June…in Georgia. Yeah, I was roasting like a big fat pig, but I sure appreciated the gifts and time spent with family.

My sister threw a jungle/safari themed baby shower for me. It was so fun! It was held at a buffet restaurant so it was affordable as well.
