I love Italian Ice. It has the smoothness of ice cream without all the guilt!
Rita’s Italian Ice sent me a couple of coupons so I decided to treat my four-year old this weekend. I’d seen it in passing, but had never tried it… and this place did not disappoint!
The menu is a little overwhelming – if I didn’t have two vouchers that said “free Italian Ice” I probably would’ve stood there half an hour trying to figure out what to get! Besides Italian Ice, Rita’s also offers shakes, frozen custard, gelatis, a fat-free soft serve Slenderita, and more.
I chose the Strawberry MargaRita Ice, a flavor that was just introduced this month. Maya’s obsessed with anything mango these days, and was thrilled they had it on the menu. The Strawberry MargaRita was more tart than sweet, just like you’d imagine a virgin strawberry margarita to be. The mango ice was delicious! Not overly sweet either. Maybe it was just my imagination, but I could feel the texture of mango in my mouth with each bite.
Yes, the Italian Ices were delicious, but what really impressed me about Rita’s was the service. The team members seemed like they were having a great time, offered samples to everyone, and just made us feel welcome. I’m not sure it applies to all Rita’s, but the one here in Alexandria, Virginia has a rainy day special where Italian Ices are buy-one-get-one-free. That’s a pretty good deal, if you ask me!
If you’ve never been to Rita’s Italian Ice, see if there’s a location near you!

I’ve always heard great things about Rita’s but haven’t tried it yet. Now I definitely will and will look into the BOGO deal here in MD! Thanks for the tip and it’s good to know what to get so I won’t be standing in front of the menu for half an hour!
