Rubbermaid Reveal Spray Mop

September 4, 2010 by Mariana

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed or Email Updates. Thanks for visiting!

Rubbermaid Reveal logoRubbermaid always comes up with innovative new products, especially when it comes to food storage containers. Did you know that they make tons of other household products, too? Most recently, Rubbermaid has introduced the Reveal Spray Mop. This new mop allows you to clean your way while saving money and wasting less. They say that the average user can save up to $50 a year vs. the leading spray mop!

How does the Rubbermaid Reveal Spray Mop work?

It may look heavy-duty, but the mop is actually very lightweight. It comes with a microfiber pad that attaches tightly and magically to the mophead, almost like Velcro. It also comes with a refillable bottle that you can fill with your own custom cleaning solution. Simply mix two tablespoons of your favorite cleaning product with hot water, close the cap, and click it into the Rubbermaid Reveal Spray Mop.

Reveal Refillable BottleCleaning with Reveal

While mopping, you can control the amount of solution you dispense by putting little or a lot of pressure on the trigger. Spray a little for a small mess and a lot for those tougher messes. This is a little tricky, though, because I found myself frequently spraying the wall or table legs if I didn’t aim the mop correctly. It can be tilted back or forth to increase or decrease the spray area.

I love that the mop needs no batteries or special refills. And the pad doesn’t slip off! I was a Swiffer user for a few years, and always felt that it was wasteful and expensive, but continued to use it because it was convenient. But no more… I’m now a Rubbermaid Reveal convert!

The Pad

Close Up of Microfiber PadMicrofibers are ultra-thin fibers (1/100 the thickness of a strand of hair!) that grab onto dirt and grime and hold on tight, leaving you an amazingly clean floor. This microfiber pad is thick and wide, which allows it to reach deep into cracks and crevices to pick up more dirt than traditional sponge mops. It also helps floors dry faster and can be washed and reused up to 100 times. A closeup of the pad is pictured to the right. Microfiber is definitely the way to go!

Reveal Recipes

Rubbermaid provided me with a few cleaning solution ‘recipes’ to try with my new Rubbermaid Reveal Spray Mop, all using products that I already have in my pantry, under the kitchen sink, or in the bathroom. Just mix the ingredients together in the refillable bottle, close the cap, and click it into the mop. To give your custom solution a clean scent, add a few drops of lemon juice or your favorite scented oil to the mix! Note: Be sure to follow all manufacturer recommendations when choosing products to clean your floor! 😉

Cleaning Solution 1 (works well on hardwood floors)
2 tablespoons ammonia
½ cup white vinegar
½ teaspoon of baby shampoo
Fill the rest with hot water.

Cleaning Solution 2 (perfect for glazed tiles, vinyl, soft tile, cement, brick, and laminate)
2 tablespoons white vinegar
2-3 drops liquid soap
Fill the rest with hot water.

Cleaning Solution 3 (great for unglazed tiles, marble, stone, and slate)
2 tablespoons baking soda
2-3 drops liquid soap
Fill the rest with hot water.

Cleaning Solution 4 (also works well on hardwood floors)
1 tablespoon white vinegar
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Fill the rest with hot water.

BUY IT!

Rubbermaid Reveal Spray MopThe Rubbermaid Reveal Spray Mop is available for purchase at Home Depot, Target, and select Walmart stores for around $30. It comes with one pad and one bottle, but extra pads and bottles can be purchased separately. For more detailed information on the Reveal Spray Mop, please visit Rubbermaid.com.

WIN IT!

One lucky reader will win their very own Rubbermaid Reveal Spray Mop kit. To enter, please leave a comment telling me what your favorite cleaning solution ‘recipe’ is!

Contest ends September 18th, 2010 11:59 pm EST. US and Canada only; one person per household may enter. Leave a separate comment per entry & a valid email address. Winner, chosen at random, has 3 days to claim their prize. Note: Canadian winners might get charged C.O.D. The sponsor has no control over this and cannot do anything to refund the charges.

Disclosure: Rubbermaid provided me with a sample of the product pictured above to facilitate my review, but all opinions are my own.

I neeeeed all the help I can get with mopping. I never have time to pull out the real mop but the disposable system I’m using just isn’t cutting it. As for a cleaning solution…..I used to use a vinegar/water mix but I’m not sure that really worked. ha!

I have been using vinegar and water for years. I don’t like to use chemicals around my kids, and the mixture will clean just about anything. Sometimes I add a few drops of essential oil- like lemon or orange- so it doesn’t have such a strong vinegar smell.
