Our TV is one of the focal points of our media room, so I like to make full use of it even if the party doesn’t revolve around watching TV. It’s framed like a piece of art, so why not treat it as one? One way to do this is with Screen Dreams DVDs. Inspired by computer screensavers, these DVDs are specifically designed to reduce the possibility of screen burn and can be played in a continuous loop until you decide to press Stop.
Screen Dreams is the original producer and leading distributor of DVD screensavers for HDTVs. “Living Holidays” is the newest in their series; it contains 14 total scenescapes, including a ‘Play All’ sequence, for two hours of total content. New Year’s, Valentine’s Day, Easter, the Fourth of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas are all featured.
We used this particular DVD over the holidays and it was a big hit! There are more Christmas scenescapes than anything else, so it never got boring. Even the New Year’s scenescape is fun! It plays the Auld Lang Syne melody, with a background of fireworks and falling confetti. It was the perfect imagery to display after the ball dropped and everyone was toasting.
I’m looking forward to using this DVD once again come Valentine’s Day! I’m hosting a party at my house next Saturday afternoon, and I’m certain it’ll be a nice touch. There’s one Valentine scenescape, with alternating floating hearts and a “Happy Valentine’s Day” message. It looks amazing on my TV! (I guess it doesn’t hurt that it’s 65″).
The Screen Dreams “Living Series” features seven other DVD screensavers that transform TVs into lively works of art. These include “Living Earth,” a compilation of mountains, forests, lakes, and other breathtaking nature scenes; “Living Aquarium Vol. 2,” which takes viewers for an undersea adventure with exotic fish and bubbling sounds; “Living Fireplace,” where viewers cozy up to inviting fireplaces that crackle and pop; “Living Waterfalls,” which features views of jungle foliage and forests with cascading waterfalls; “Living Beaches,” which transports viewers to the beach with images of ocean waves and chirping seagulls; and “Living Butterflies,” which enchants viewers with butterflies fluttering over rolling hills, flowers, and grassy fields. One theme that I think is missing is a birthday scenescape. Since so many birthday celebrations take place at home, it just seems a natural extension for Screen Dreams to do this.
These DVDs are are intended specifically for use with Plasma, LCD, DLP, CRT, Projection, and Home Theater HDTVs, and are formatted for all NTSC regions (including North America, Latin America, Southeast Asia, and Japan).
With the music and sound effects, Screen Dreams DVDs are the perfect accessory for HDTVs, although I wouldn’t say this is a must-have product. BUT I believe that what makes a party memorable is the details, and Screen Dreams definitely add a “wow” factor, setting the mood and enhancing the ambience of any room.
You can preview each DVD and purchase them online at www.screendreamsdvd.com. Each one costs $14.95. Shipping is free, and you get a discount if you buy a few at a time. With scenes for every season, you can use the Living Holidays DVD throughout the year so it’s a great value!
