These photos were taken early last week.
Maya’s fascinated by icicles.
She goes around looking for them hanging off the edge of the roof or the bumpers of cars.
She’s also a little obsessed with throwing snowballs,
which was okay until I became the target.
So I made a new rule that she can only throw snowballs at my back.
She didn’t like this rule, so she moved on.
Maura is captivated by the texture of snow and wouldn’t stop eating it!
What started out as a snowman turned into a volcano… I just call it laziness.
This is when I should’ve had my Flip, not my Nikon.
Maya grabbed a huge chunk of snow and declared –
“Mommy, look! I have the HUGEST snowball EVAHH. Take a picture! NOW!
Hurryyyyy! It’s heavy. And coldddd.”
“CHEEEEEEESE! Did you get it?”
Yes, I got it. And somehow missed that Maura had stepped into the shot.
You can probably guess what happened next.
Even though it looks like she’s smiling, I swear Maya didn’t do it on purpose.
She couldn’t even see that Maura was there.
And here she is falling over. Poor baby.
She complained a little, but was otherwise unscathed.
We couldn’t play in the snow without making the requisite snow angels.
During that hour or so that we spent outside I realized that I wasn’t prepared for a big snow at all. The girls don’t have snowsuits, or waterproof mittens, or appropriate shoes. I’m not sure what I was thinking letting Maya out in her cowboy boots! Hopefully I’ll plan things better next year.
At this point I was freezing, but the girls still didn’t want to go back inside.
I tempted Maya with a cup of juice, and Maura… well, she just followed.
I also brought snow back in for them to play with. I had a feeling it would be our one and only good snow of the season, so I wanted to take full advantage. It’s amazing how long it lasts in a cake pan. They probably got a good 20-30 minutes of play out of it!
The snow was gone within a couple of days, replaced by surprisingly warm weather over the weekend. I’m so glad they enjoyed it before it melted away!

So much fun!! I don’t miss the snow here, but that looks like a fun day. You got such great pictures – especially with the giant falling snowball. (Poor girl, lol.) The snowman/volcano is hysterical too. 🙂 I’m surprised the snow lasted so long inside too, but what a great idea.
