She’s berry bitty girl with berry big possibilities
And fruit-filled fun is the secret to her recipe.
She may be small, no task is too tall!
She’ll be your best bud, just give her a call!
Strawberry, Strawberry, Strawberry, Shortcake…
I love that song. It’s the opening to the all-new Strawberry Shortcake movie. Along with the new movie this past Fall, came a line of toys by Hasbro. The one element that all these toys share is Strawberry Shortcake’s signature “berry sweet” scent, but if you want to buy just one, the question is – which one? Starting with the lowest in price, here are a few of the various Strawberry Shortcake products on the market right now. They’re available at most major toy retailers nationwide, as well as on Amazon and HasbroToyShop.com.
Strawberry Shortcake Mini Doll with DVD
This is a great introduction to Strawberry Shortcake. The set includes a 3-inch mini doll with a removable outfit, little cat figure, and an eleven minute DVD. My only complaint would be that the movie is too short, but for the price, you can’t expect a feature film! It’s long enough to tell a story, and leave kids wanting to know more about this fun character. When the cartoon is over, girls can pair their new friend with her pet Custard the cat figure and re-enact the storyline or create a new one. For ages 4 and up. $5.99. {Buy it!} |

Strawberry Shortcake in a Purse
A fun stocking stuffer or party favor idea! This tiny friend is 3 inches in height and has brushable hair. She comes in a little purse so she can be taken along everywhere! Her dress can be removed. Choose from all six friends, each sold separately: Strawberry Shortcake, Lemon Meringue, Orange Blossom, Raspberry Torte, Blueberry Muffin, and Plum Pudding. For ages 4 and up. $6.99. {Buy it!} |

Strawberry Shortcake Mini Soft Dolls
Available in three scents – Strawberry Shortcake, Lemon Meringue, and Orange Blossom – these 6-inch dolls have long, brushable hair and soft bodies. Hat is removable, the dress is not. Dolls are sold individually. For ages 3 and up. $8.99 {Buy it!} |

Strawberry Shortcake Berry Sweet Roadster
This berry-pink convertible car is adorable and perfect for driving around Strawberry Shortcake in style! Buckle up the seatbelts, and press the steering wheel for a puff of sweet strawberry scent. Car can comfortably seat two 3-inch figures. One doll is included, with a dress, hat, map and suitcase accessories. For ages 4 and up. $14.99. {Buy it!} |

Strawberry Shortcake Themed Playsets
For ages 4 and up, the Berry Stylish (pictured to the left) and Berry Market sets cost $10.99, while the Goodies to Go Scooter and the Picnic in Petals sets will set you back $16.99. These sets would work well with the big café playset below, and are great for acting out exciting adventures! Each set is sold separately and comes complete with 3-inch scented doll(s) and accessories. |

Strawberry Shortcake Sweet Surprise Doll
This lovely redhead has the signature strawberry scent, flowing hair, and cute outfit, but the sweet surprise is that you can use a “magic” pen to reveal her eye shadow, lip color and berry beauty mark! Just fill the applicator with water, pop it in the freezer, and once it’s cold, use it to “apply” the makeup! She also comes with hair clips, extensions, and fun sticker accessories. 11 inches tall, she’s poseable and lots of fun for both my daughters to play with. Unlike other “magic” color-changing toys, this one actually works! For ages 3 and up. $22.99. {Buy it!} |

Strawberry Shortcake Berry Cafe Playset
Shaped like a big berry, this is Strawberry Shortcake’s hangout. Two stories tall, with doors and windows that open and close, the café playset comes with mini scented Strawberry Shortcake figure and TONS of accessories, including furniture and pretend food. Lots of small pieces, though, that can be easily lost (or go in the mouth of a baby!) I like the flying hummingbird at the top that she can ride. This is a nice alternative to a dollhouse, especially when space is an issue. Ages 4 and up. $34.99. {Buy it!} |
We have 4 of the 7 toys pictured above, and will most likely add to my daughters’ collection this Christmas! (“Hi Santa, I want a big strawberry house…” and Santa was like “Huh?”) I love that none of them require batteries, are all good for quiet play, and encourage my girls to use their imagination.
The 5-year-old’s favorite is the Berry Sweet Roadster. She’s crazy about cars, and was happy to find a “girly” one for a change. The scent released when you “honk” the horn is very subtle, and it barely makes a little squeak, which is fine with me! It teaches about the importance of wearing a seat belt; though a little hard for my big fingers to buckle, Maya does it perfectly well, and never puts her dolls in without! The one thing that disappointed me about this set is the fact that the map and suitcase are made out of PAPER. Thin cardboard. Come on, Hasbro! The map I don’t mind so much, as it makes it more realistic, but the suitcase? I tried to keep it together with tape, but it still went in the trash after a couple of weeks. Does my 5-year old care? Not in the least. It’s the car that she’s fascinated with, and I’m happy to say it is very well made.
And the toddler… she loves Strawberry Shortcake Sweet Surprise! The doll fits well in her hands, and can even brush her hair easily. When she’s playing with it, I put away the makeup applicator and the hair clips, since they’re small.
On that note, if younger siblings will be playing with these toys, then maybe you should avoid the playsets, which have lots of small accessories that could be ingested.
The Strawberry Shortcake “Sky’s the Limit” DVD would also make a nice gift or stocking stuffer, at $14.98.
Are you getting any of the toys above for your little Strawberry Shortcake fan?
Hasbro provided me with several of the products mentioned above for review at no cost to me.
