Too busy for lunch?

How many times have you ‘forgotten’ to eat lunch because you’re out and about, running errands, working, or at an activity with your kids? It happens to all of us. As a mom, I tend to put everyone else’s needs before my own, and if I didn’t have my kids to remind me (they are always hungry!), I’d probably forget to eat, too. Set an alarm on your phone if you have to! Just don’t skip a meal. It’s not good. You’ll just end up eating more later on, and probably not something healthy.

Fresh foods at 7-Eleven

Fresh foods at 7-ElevenIf there’s a 7-Eleven near you – which there probably is – you have no excuse! Have you checked out their Fresh Foods line lately? There are tons of better-for-you options to choose from, making it easy to grab a quick (and healthy!) bite to eat for the right price. From salads and sandwiches, to snacks such as fresh cut fruit, whole fruit, yogurt parfaits, veggie packs, boiled eggs and string cheese, you’ll find something to fuel your day.

If a sandwich or salad isn’t your thing, you can easily combine a few different items, like an apple, cheese cubes, a hard-boiled egg, and some carrots dipped in hummus to create a small meal. Lunch doesn’t have to be a big deal – just enough to satisfy you and keep your energy up!

Tonight, we actually picked up dinner from 7-Eleven on the way home. It was late… no way I was cooking! And I had to pick up a gallon of milk anyway. You’d think the shelves would be empty by nightfall, but even at 9 o’clock at night, the Fresh Foods section was stocked with fresh sandwiches, salads, fresh cut fruit, whole fruit, yogurt, and more. In fact, 7-Eleven’s fresh foods are prepared in local kitchens and delivered to stores daily, ensuring premium quality products every day.

I grabbed a tuna sandwich for myself, and my daughters both reached for subs – turkey for Maura and an Italian sub for Maya. Fruit rounded out our meals. You can get a fruit cup for only $1 with any food item!

My sandwich was quite good… a generous portion of handmade tuna salad between two slices of thick whole wheat bread. I just added a little relish that I grabbed from the condiment bar. The girls liked their sandwiches, too, plus they were cheaper than those at a nearby sandwich shop. We ate out on the patio while laughing at our dog, Pepper, chasing fireflies around the backyard.

I’m kind of obsessed with the fresh cut mango and jicama… it comes with lime wedges and a little packet of Tajín (a Mexican fruit seasoning) to sprinkle on top. While I’d love to peel and slice mangoes and jicama at home, sometimes there’s no time for that! Not to mention I can never find jicama at my local grocery store. So this is a real treat for me. There’s also pineapple and cucumber with lime and Tajín. Mmmm!

7-ElevenTo me, 7-Eleven is all about convenience and dependability. I know I can always expect a friendly face greeting me when I walk through the door, and when my power goes out during a summer thunderstorm, as it so often does, I know I can depend on 7-Eleven for a few bags of ice, a gallon of milk, and plenty of food to tide us over.

Now I know I can also count on 7-Eleven for a healthy meal or snack when I’m on the go. With over 10,000 stores in North America, it’s likely you have a 7-Eleven near you!

How do you make lunch a priority in your day? What do you eat when you’re on the go?

For lunch I try to eat something light like a salad, but sometimes I am so busy that I forget to eat lunch. I’m glad more convenience stores are adding more healthier options to choose from.

I almost never have time to sit down and eat lunch when I am working. I wish we had a place like this around my job to make lunchtime easier for me.

I haven’t seen a 7-Eleven around our home in years. On our way back from Florida, however, we stopped in one and actually got a really tasty pizza. I was surprised at how good it was to be honest. It convinced me to stop back in there again!

I miss living near a 7 eleven because I used to run in and grab a coke and peanuts to go in it. We don’t have one around here but when I see one while traveling, I’ll check out their lunch goodies.
