Toy Fair – What’s new this year in the wonderful world of toys?

The 107th International Toy Fair took place last week in New York City and I wasn’t there. {Waaah!} I had to take my daughter to the doctor on the day that I was supposed to go, and had no sitter for the rest of the week. So sad. 🙁

On Friday, I watched Time to Play live on MomTV, where Chris and Jim, from Time to Play Mag, talked about a few of the unique products out of the 10,000 (!!!) new toys they saw at Toy Fair. Here are some of the highlights:

  • Action Sports. Like a skateboarding marionette! Do tricks that let you “Put Action into Action Figures!” Comes with a skate park. $14.99. www.actionsportstoys.com
  • Electronic Catchphrase. (Pictured to the right) Clips on your belt. “Think quick, talk fast, keep it moving!” This miniature version works like the original and features 3 top categories. Made by Basic Fun. $13.99.
  • Giggleator. (Pictured to the right) Based on the classic toy the Giggle Stick, this has 12 different pre-programmed sounds and lets you record and manipulate your own sounds. Made by Basic Fun. $17.99.
  • KOOSH ball. (Pictured to the right) It’s back! Made famous by Rosie O’Donnell, who would throw them into her audience, Basic Fun has brought KOOSH balls back.
  • Lennon Sisters dolls. (Pictured to the right) You may remember the Lennon Sisters from the Lawrence Welk show. They created 2 dolls, replicas of dolls they grew up with. Pretty!
  • Marble Racers. 1/64th scale cars have a large marble inside. Cars light up and flash. $6.99.
  • Paper Jamz. (Pictured to the right) A flat guitar made out of paper! And it actually plays music. Crazy. It comes with 3 songs, or you can play freestyle. The guys at Time to Play expect it to be one of the hottest toys of the year! There’s an amp that you can plug your mp3 player into, also made out of paper, and a drumset. Coming out June 1st. Made by WowWee, a robotics toy company. $25. www.paperjamz.com
  • Puppetoys. The T-Rex glove puppet looks so realistic! Any dinosaur fan would love this. www.puppetoys.com
  • RC Tarantula. I saw this at Time to Play last year… it really looks like a HUGE tarantula. I’m not a fan, but I know a bunch of tween boys who would be! Uncle Milton also makes a realistic RC snake.
  • Sky Ball. The ball that can bounce 75 feet, sometimes more! This year it’ll come in 3 sizes. A bat will be available as well. Made by Maui Toys. $7.99-14.99.
  • Toy Story 3 toys. Most are still kept under wraps. Coming out May 1st (I think).
  • Vamplets. (Pictured to the right) Baby vampires! Cute in a creepy kind of way. They come with a baby bottle of blood and come in different sizes and styles. Coming out later this year. $19.99. www.vamplets.com
  • Web extensions of toys. Expect more of this – traditional toys with an online world for expanded play. World of Cars Online is one of the new sites coming out this year!

  4. I love the Vamplets. I don’t even think they’re creepy, they’re just cute. I’m not sure about the baby bottle of blood though…now that’s a little creepy. lol
