I’ve noticed there’s been a big push to get people to vote early this year. I don’t remember this from previous elections, do you? In fact, President Obama is the first sitting president to cast his vote early.
Personally, I’ve gone back and forth on the issue. There’s just something so exciting about going in to vote on Election Day, taking the kids with us, getting our little stickers, and rushing back home to see the results live on TV!
But I understand that things can come up that keep people from voting on that Tuesday. Maybe they have to work late, or the weather is bad. (Ahem… stupid hurricane!) And they’ll wish they had voted early.
If we made Election Day a holiday, or moved it to a weekend (Mexico’s election day falls on a Sunday), more people would participate, I believe.
I actually voted last Friday. I don’t want to stand in long lines and wait on voting day. It was in and out. Many people are taking advantage of the absentee voting. I am glad they make it available to all.
