Hope you all had a very merry Christmas, for those that celebrate it.
Ours was pretty low-key. As most Latino families, we celebrate on Nochebuena (Christmas Eve). A late dinner – pork, chicken, rice, sweet potatoes, plantains, and a green salad – followed by opening presents just around midnight.
We do the Santa Claus thing too, though, which made it a little stressful for my 5-year-old at the end of the night. She had been tracking Santa on noradsanta.org all day. Every 5 minutes practically. This continued at my in-law’s house. Around 10pm I made it look like the page couldn’t load anymore and told her that it probably got overloaded because so many kids around the world were tracking Santa as well. She believed me, but knew it was late and kept telling her daddy and I that it was time to go home. Opening presents distracted her for a while, until she realized that her cousin received a lot more gifts than she did. I explained to her that we do our present-opening on Christmas morning, that way we have all day to play with the toys. Her cousin has to go to bed and doesn’t get to play with hers until the next day. Not entirely satisfied with my answer, she sighed, shrugged her shoulders, as if to say “I guess…”
Christmas Day we woke up late (9am!!), ran downstairs to see what Santa brought, and played all day in our PJs. It was perfect. Well, almost. I’ll leave that for another post. Right now I want to play Santa, and announce the big winner of the $250 VISA gift card and one-night hotel stay!
The winner, chosen randomly from 1200+ entries is…

Woke up late on Christmas?! My 3 year old woke the whole house up early, but we had been up all night with a sick 1 year old, and then bam I was sick all day on Christmas … glad to be back but still feeling a bit queezy!
Congrats to the winner!

I got to sleep in on Christmas, and it was wonderful! We didn’t end up opening presents until noon, which meant that I actually had my hair and teeth brushed for Christmas opening pictures for once 🙂 Since my daughter was only 6 months last Christmas, I really had no idea how magical opening presents with a toddler is. Nothing like a kid’s look of joy and the following sloppy baby kisses to remind you about the magic of Christmas!
