Wordless Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday…

My grandma (abuelita) passed away yesterday. Monday. She was buried today. Tuesday. It all happened so fast, but I think it’s finally starting to sink in.

I’m so happy I was able to say goodbye. We were with her last week, in Mexico, that’s why I’ve been a little absent here and on Twitter lately.

It’s a 7-hour drive from Austin to Monterrey, so we decided to drive home Sunday afternoon. When we left her, she was weak, barely eating, but stable; we thought we had more time and planned on coming back for the long Fourth of July weekend.

My grandma told my mom just before we left, “Si te vas, me voy a morir.” If you leave, I’m going to die. And she did just that. Less than 24 hours later, she was gone, and we were back on the road to Mexico.

We went straight to the funeral home when we arrived, and spent the entire evening there, until midnight or so, when I knew the girls couldn’t take it anymore (nor could I). Many, including my mom, spent the night.

Maya has been so worried about my grandpa, constantly giving him hugs and following him around, making sure he’s okay. It’s pretty amazing. She has such a good heart.

The crowd at the funeral today was incredible, unbelievable considering the short notice. I counted more than 20 coronas, these huge floral arrangements that are typical at funerals in Mexico.

Coronas

We won't forget you... your grandchildren

She was so loved.

I’m going to miss her so much.

I am very sorry to read about your Grandmother’s passing. Your Grandfather looks so lost and sad in your photo. It must be very hard for him as well as for you & your whole family. Mariana, when you are missing her, close your eyes and think of all the wonderful moments you had with her in your lives. I do this when I miss my lost loved ones and it helps me. Love & prayers, Terri
