You Capture: Peace

I bought Chiquito this little slipper toy at the pharmacy the other day and he’s obsessed with it. He bites it and it squeaks, delighting him every time. Maya thought it was strange that they don’t sell the slippers in pairs! “Who would only want one slipper?” It’s a dog toy, I say. “But it looks like a slipper.” It is… but it’s not. One of those never-ending conversations, you know? You just can’t rationalize with a 6-year-old.

After I put the girls to bed, Chiquito waits for me to grab my laptop and lay on the couch so he can cuddle up next to me. Sometimes, if I don’t give him enough attention, he shows his jealous side and actually jumps up on my chest, looking me straight in the eye, almost nose to nose, as I unsuccessfully try to keep from laughing ignore him and keep typing.

Most of the time Chiquito just sits there and stares at me, though. I bounce blog post ideas off him. Tell him my problems. Sing to him. “Chiquitito, tell me the truth…” He’s a wonderful listener and loves me unconditionally. He brings me peace.

What brings you peace?

I would have to agree with our dog, Sadie. Only I’m positive she walks away on purpose every time I sing to her. 😀

Awwww, I agree with your daughter. He’s so cute he deserves two slippers 🙂 My cats usually bring me peace but right now they are chasing each other around the room and scooting my daughter’s step stool across the floor, making this terrible nails-on-a-chalkboard sound that is driving me crazy and leaving me to wonder if I should trade them for a dog!

I so would never buy my dog a toy that looked like a slipper! He’d eat my real chanclas…

But, I totally agree with your feelings for Chiquito. My little Buddy is my mate, my amigo, my constant shadow…I like to say he’s the Only person who loves me unconditionally!

Wish the two of them could play.

LOVE! and so relate. My Golden–Yellow–has been a faithful, true companion. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with terminal cancer this summer and given 3-6 months to live. I went off the deep end for a couple of weeks b.c he’s been by my side no matter what–the good, the bad, the ugly. Plus I started obsessing about the day IT happens, who will be the person who drops everything the day I call to go to the vet for the last time (I live far from family)? How am I going back to an empty house? Luckily, I’ve gotten a grip, and I’m loving him as if each day was our last day together.

Awwww…that’s too cute!!! Hehe…my dog is the same way except he starts scratching at my hand or putting his head on the keyboard so I have to give him some time at night too. 🙂
