My kitchen’s a mess. You wouldn’t think this by looking at it, but just open a cabinet and you’ll see what I’m talking about. Pantry space doesn’t seem to be an issue, as much as not using the space properly. It’s all very disorganized. Things get put away by one person (usually me) and often pulled out by someone else, just to be put away in another spot.
Rubbermaid sent me an 8 piece set of their new Modular Canisters to help me out with this little problem. Great for organizing pantry goods like flour, sugar, cereal, and pasta, these canisters were designed to maximize the space you have in your pantry. They stack evenly to save space, plus, they have durable bases, a securely sealing lid, and graduation marks for measuring.
The set comes with the following sized containers:
5 cup container and lid Great for storing baking powder and soda, coffee, crackers, etc. |
10 cup container and lid Great for storing rice, dried fruit, granola, etc. |
16 cup container and lid Great for storing sugar, cookies, etc. |
21 cup container and lid Great for storing flour, cereal, dried pasta, etc. |
Like most Rubbermaid sets, one lid fits all containers. Love this feature! The slim, rectangular design makes them easy to stack, or place side by side. This makes for terrific use of space! My shelves are a little short, so the 21-cup one, full of nuts, had to go on its side. The 16-cup container fit 2 bags of pasta. I like that these canisters are clear so you can easily see what is stored inside. Sugar and flour look alike, so I need to label the containers, but as I’m the only one that cooks, it didn’t seem that urgent. I’d rather take the time to make nice little labels. 😉
Tips on How to Organize Your Pantry
1. Set aside about an hour of time and clear off some counter space. You’re going to need it.
2. Start pulling out food items. Place them in one of four piles:
- Expired items… throw these away!
- Donate items… you know your family is never going to eat that cranberry sauce before it expires. Give it to someone who could use it!
- Baking goods or other dry goods you want to put in the Modular Canisters.
- Other keep items.
3. With the last two piles, decide what will go in the Modular Canisters and set aside. With the remaining items, sort into like categories. For example, soup together, snacks together, crackers together, etc.
4. Put things back in the pantry. Think about how you use this space. Are your kids always grabbing snacks? Put these on lower shelves where they can reach. Do you eat cereal every morning? Keep this front and center where you can easily grab it.
5. Now, put items into the Modular Canisters. Do NOT forget to label what you put in each container. Use a Sharpie, label maker, or cut out a piece of the package and place it in the container where you can easily see it. This lets you know what’s inside and let’s others know what is where and where to put things.
BUY IT!
Modular Canisters are currently available at Fred Meyer, Publix, Ahold and Albertsons. They should be available at Wal-Mart and Meijer in August. Find more information on the Rubbermaid website.

I’m ‘freshening up’ my kitchen this summer and could use extra containers to store standard pantry items – these are a lot cuter than keeping food in their original packaging!
Rice, Bisquik and cereal mostly. I suggest cutting out the directions (well, for the rice and mix. I know how to “make” cereal.) and taping it to the container.
I would use them to keep cereal and pasta.
We are in the proces of building a pantry off of my kitchen (YAY!) so I would put these to good use here.

I would organize my baking goods!
Sugar, flour, cereal and rice – that’s how I would use the Rubbermaid canisters… just maybe not in that order! 🙂
I would use the containers for chocolate chips, cereal, sugar, popcorn packs, all those single serve drink pouch’s, all those fast food packets kids and hubby want to save.
Boy I could think of so many uses all over the house like bathroom for first aid tape, band aides,q-tips, cotton balls
ok enough you got the idea lol
Thank you so very much for giving me a chance to be a winner

I would use them for my cereal and my daughter’s snacks (goldfish crackers, etc)
I’d store cereals and some quick to-go snacks, like granola bars.
I need them to store grains. It is so nice to see what I have, rather than a pile of leaky bags.

I love these containers. Already use them for cereal. Cuts down on boxes, and you can see what you have/need, prior to shopping trips!
I would use these containers to organize my toddlers snack foods/cereals! Leaving snacks and cereal in their original containers drastically reduces their shelf life and I’d love to be able to easily access my son’s favorite snacks!
I’d use them to keep fresh things that spill and make a mess, or attract pests. So flour, oatmeal, sugar, cereal would all be candidates to be put into those Rubbermaid containers!
Thanks for the giveaway!

My entire baking cabinet needs a really nice overhaul! Baking chips, flour, sugar, nuts, cocoa, brown sugar, powdered sugar…you name it! These would do it! Thanks for the chance. bekki1820cb at gmail

I’d use them for taco sauce packets (out of control!), fortune cookies, macaroni and beans.
What would I use them for? One word….CEREAL. My cabinets are strewn with half empty boxes, some not even open, some practically empty yet suspiciously placed away anyway. Would be so much easier to SEE the stuff instead of guessing by weight.
I would use these canisters to organize my fashion accessories such as scarves, gloves, mittens, etc…
I would use these canisters to organize my pantry. I have a similar set from Tupperware & I need more for items like granola bars, bread crumbs, cereal, etc. Thanks for the giveaway!
